Course Description

This course is focused towards the more experienced truck driver. Vehicle review takes you through the pre-tip inspection, air brakes and backing maneuvers. Students also brush up on double-clutching, approaching intersections, and maneuvering through turns.

All of this review is conducted in preparation of the student’s CDL skills evaluation where the truck driver must demonstrate one’s knowledge of the truck’s condition through a pre-trip inspection and complete a set of driving skills administered by a certified CDL examiner. An optional DMV CDL Road Skills Exam is also available in place of the Skills Evaluation.

(Minimum 2 students)

Certifications or Certificates

  • Upon successful completion, students have the opportunity to obtain a State of Alaska Commercial Driver’s License A or B

Length of Program

  • Up to 36 Hours (2 students to 1 instructor)

Format of Program

-Week One: Wednesday through Friday, 6:00PM–10:-00PM; Saturday 11:30AM – 10:00PM
-Week Two: Wednesday through Friday, 6:00PM–10:-00PM; Saturday 11:30AM – 10:00PM

Course Description

Northern Industrial Training, LLC is a approved third party test provider for the state of Alaska for class A, B, or C commercial vehicles.The exam is given by an Alaska Division of Motor Vehicles Certified Examiner. Restriction removal and endorsement tests are also available.

Curriculum

  • Class A and B commercial vehicles are available for road exam use. A student may provide their own vehicle as long as it meets the standards set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA) and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for commercial road exams. Proof of current insurance and vehicle registration is required.

  • Class C commercial vehicles are not provided. Students must provide their own vehicle that meets standards set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA) and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for commercial road exams.Students must provide current insurance and vehicle registration.

  • Sections 11, 12, and 13 of the Alaska CDL Manual describe all of the skills required to pass the road exam. It is recommended that you review sections 11,12, and 13 before taking an exam. The CDL Manual can be found online at: http://doa.alaska.gov/dmv/dlmanual/cdlmanual.pdf

Certifications or Certificates

  • Upon successful completion, students have the opportunity to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License in the class of vehicle tested. This will be available at any Alaskan DMV.

  • All three skill areas of the road exam must be successfully completed in order to obtain a CDL license.

Course Description

This long combination vehicle (tandem training) course is a graduated training program for the experienced professional driver with a Class A license.

This training provides the opportunity for an experienced driver who possesses a CDL A to get the additional skills to pull more than one trailer (doubles). This certification meets the FMCSA requirements. This is a 40-hour course.

Curriculum

-Section 1: Orientation, LCVs in Trucking, Regulatory Factors, Driver Qualifications, Vehicle Configuration Factors
Section 2: Basic Operation Inspection, Coupling and Uncoupling, Basic Maneuvers, Turning, Steering and Tracking Proficiency Development
Section 3: Safe Operating Practices, Interacting with Traffic, Speed and Space Management, Night Operations, Extreme Driving Conditions, Security Issues, Proficiency Development
Section 4: Advanced Operations, Hazard Perception, Hazardous Situations, Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Section 5: Non-Driving Activities, Routes and Trip Planning, Cargo and Weight Considerations
Section 6: Range and Street Driving: Basic maneuvers, Coupling and Uncoupling, Over the Road Trip on Alaskan Highways

Certifications or Certificates

  • Upon successful completion, students have the opportunity to obtain an FMCSA Longer Combination Vehicle (LCV) Driver Training Certificate

Length of Program

  • 40 Hours

Format of Program

  • 1 week, minimum of 2 students

  • 19 Years of Age or Older

  • Experienced Driver
  • Valid CDL A for most current 6 months - Must provide a letter from employer
