Professional Truck Driving Programs

 

 6 Week Professional Truck Driving Institute (PTDI) Basic Truck Driver Training Program

This course extensively guides students through vehicle systems, safety, and hands-on, tractor-trailer driver training. Safe operating practices address accident procedures, extreme driving conditions and emergency maneuvers. Students take the road skills test in the same equipment used throughout the course. Also included in this course is training in First Aid/CPR, DOT Regulations (49 CFR 172.700) and forklift use.  Graduates receive a certificate for each and a CDL Class A with endorsements. Please note: The program consists of 15 days of classroom 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by 5 days of range, followed by 10 days of street driving. 

Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED, DOT physical, DOT Drug Test, Clean Driving Record- applicants must provide a DMV Driver's History Report, Social Security Card (for DMV purposes an orginial Social Security Card- No exceptions.)
Tuition $5,875 (includes permit, road skills exam fee)

Books & Materials Fee: $125

 

2 week Pro Truck Driver

This accelerated trctor-trailer driving program includes 24 hours of classroom training with written exam preparation and time allotted for DMV written testing and permitting. This program includes up to 56 hours of vehicle training (to include air brake testing, pre-trip inspection and coupling/uncoupling). Safe driving practices, preventative maintenance, speed and space management, night operation and backing are also addressed.

Upon successful completion, students earn a CDL A or CDL B.

Prerequisites: DOT physical, DOT Drug Test, Clean Driving Record- applicants must provide a DMV Driver's History Report, Social Security Card (for DMV purposes an orginial Social Security Card- No exceptions.)

Tuition: $4,500 (includes permit, road skills test fee)

Books & Materials Fee: $125

Long Combination Vehicle (LCV)

This 80 hour LCV (tandem) program is a graduated training for the experienced professional driver. This training provides the opportunity for an experienced driver who possesses a CDL A to get the additional skills to pull more than one trailer. This certification meets the FMCSA requirements. Prerequisites:  CDL A (6 months of documented experience required) DOT physical, DMV History Report & DOT drug test.  

Tuition: $4,250    

Books & Materials Fee: $125

 

2 day Pro Truck Driver

This individualized program for an inexperienced truck driver for CDL A or B includes up to 14 hours of instruction on pre-trip, air brakes testing, and behind the wheel driving. Two hours are reserved for the road skills exam.

Prerequisites for CDL B:  Completed DMV written tests to include General Knowledge and Airbrakes, IB permit, DOT Physical

Prerequisites for CDL A:  Completed DMV written tests to include General Knowledge, Combination Vehicle and Airbrakes, IA permit, DOT Physical

Tuition:  $2,150

Fairbanks Tuition: $2,300

 

1 Day Basic Skill Evaluation CDL A/B

This individualized program is for the extremely experienced truck driver for CDL A or B. This

program includes up to 6 hours of air brakes testing, coupling/uncoupling, backing, and behind the

wheel driving. Two hours are reserved for the road skills exam.

Prerequisites for CDL B:  Completed DMV written tests to include General Knowledge and Airbrakes, IB permit, DOT Physical

Palmer Tuition: $1,050 Fairbanks Tuition:$1,150

 

1/2 Day Basic Skills Evaluation CDL A/B

This individualized program is for the extremely experienced truck driver for CDL A or B. This

program includes up to 3 hours of air brakes testing, coupling/uncoupling, backing, and behind the

wheel driving. This program is catered toward individuals who need a quick check up on their skills. Two hours are reserved for the road skills exam.

Prerequisites for CDL B:  Completed DMV written tests to include General Knowledge and Airbrakes, IB permit, DOT Physical

Prerequisites for CDL A:  Completed DMV written tests to include General Knowledge, Combination Vehicle and Airbrakes, IA permit, DOT Physical & Experienced Driver  

Palmer Tuition: $575; Fairbanks Tuition: $575

 

 

Passenger Bus Training (CDL B)

This is an individualized training program which includes up to 3 hours of air brakes testing, backing, and behind the wheel driving. Upon completion students will earn a CDL B with Passenger Bus endorsement which allows students to drive buses for private motor carriers. This is not a School Bus Endorsement. Two hours are reserved for the road skills exam.

Prerequisites: IB permit with Passenger Bus written exam score, DOT physical

Tuition: $575

 

CDL Checkride Refresher

Three hours of individual refresher training for a CDL Class A or B holder.

Prerequisite: CDL A or B, DOT Physical    Tuition:  $ 450

 

The State of Alaska DMV CDL fee is $100. This fee is paid directly to the State and is not included in any program tuition.

 

Please note Federal Law mandates that an individual must be a minimum of 19 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of one year to be eligible to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
