The USDOE Grant addresses the need for Adult Job Readiness Training in remote regions for Alaska Natives as well as an Advanced Career Path Training. NIT’s partnerships with Alaskan Native agencies address these challenges.
The job readiness training serves as the foundation for the participants to learn and understand the basic skills needed to progress in the Alaskan oil and gas, and construction industry. Upon completion of the job readiness program participants will also have the opportunity to join the advanced career path training in NCCER pipefitting level I and level II. The pipefitting training will lead to advanced job placement and potential higher earnings.
This unique training program will serve as an ongoing career path for participants to learn required employment skills and overcome challenges in order to move forward with advanced career training or entry level employment in industry to gain experience.
This USDOE Grant will focus recruitment in the following regions: Yukon Koyukuk Region, Bethel Region, Skagway Hoonah-Angoon, Kenai Peninsula, Denali Region and the North Slope/Northwest Arctic Region.
NIT will use various methods to evaluate participants; surveys and observation, student progress reports, pre, and post, training NCCER certification, and employment goals.
Following graduation, NIT staff will continue to follow-up with each student and provide employment opportunities and training updates.
