MSHA Surface Inexperienced Miner

Quick Overview

This 16-hour course (24 hours required by MSHA) prepares students (CFR, Part 48, Subpart B) for employment at a metal/non-metal mine site.

Course Description

Training includes mine related topics: statutory rights of miners, authority and responsibility of supervisors, transportation controls, communications systems, escape and emergency evacuation plans, fire warning and firefighting, ground control, working in areas of highwalls, water hazards, pits and spoil banks, health, hazard recognition, electrical hazards, and explosives. Upon completion, students will also receive certification in First Aid/CPR. After classroom instruction, students must perform site-specific task and hazard training.
