Scheduled training days are Monday thru Friday, with possible Saturday trainings (admissions staff will specify). Class begins at 8:00am and ends at 4:30pm each day. Class curriculum may include independent study. Your lunch break will be from ½ hour to 1 hour depending on class schedule. Break times are 5 minutes per hour or 15 minutes every two hours when driving. All breaks are regulated. NIT requires all students to maintain a minimum GPA of 70%.
The classroom shall be kept clean at all times. Please dispose of all trash in receptacles each day. The equipment/trucks are to be cleaned by each student at the end of shift. Messages will be taken at the reception area. Emergencies are an exception. Instructors will have cell phones on remote sites to receive calls and or messages (for students) from the main facility. Cell phone use is not permitted in classroom or during training on heavy equipment/trucks. Students will be required to turn off their cell phones during this time.
Complaints by students may be addressed initially with the instructor. If a student feels his/her concerns have not been addressed or met in this way, he/she is encouraged to make an appointment with the program manager. Further appeal may be referred to the CEO. Final appeals may be made to the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (alaskaadvantage.state.ak.us/).
